It's been only a few weeks since Halsey returned to one of their most beloved hair colors—turquoise—and barely more than a week since she zhuzhed it up with a shorter style and layers of green and yellow under the bold, oceanic hue. It felt like the singer-songwriter was entering a fun new era with a nod to the past. But even with fan enthusiasm over the look and arguably more access than most to what it takes for seamless upkeep, it seems Halsey has already gotten bored with blue.
Halsey has spent the last few days in Italy for the Venice International Film Festival, attending a variety of events, from the amFAR Gala to the premiere of The Smashing Machine. And in each case, they looked absolutely stunning in an array of formal gowns. Would those gowns have looked incredible topped off with turquoise hair? No doubt. But Halsey decided to take a dark turn for this trip abroad.
At the amFAR Gala, Halsey wore a corsetted Erik Charlotte dress covered in midnight-blue lace. The sheer gloss on her lips was given a high-contrast, rust-red outline that matched several shades of her eye shadow, which also included gold and navy blue. Even her eyelashes were coated in blue mascara. But her hair? Not blue.

Halsey debuted a new pitch-black hair color, and while it's in the same cheekbone bob and baby bangs silhouette they've been seen in recently, it's not crazy to think it might be a wig for the sake of a more traditionally formal look to go with the film festival's fancy vibes. But we suspect it might actually be a stunning dye job.
When Halsey was spotted again arriving at the Hotel Excelsior on September 1 in a satiny, taupe, off-the-shoulder gown, the previously flipped-out ends were smoothed under. And a very close look at Halsey's hairline seems to reveal that her hair is definitely dyed.

Halsey wore the Amelie-esque look again at the premiere of The Smashing Machine, where she wore a sheer, yellow halter gown. While on the red carpet, Halsey was even seen interacting with a blue-haired fan, who we can only hope isn't too bummed that she didn't match with the star.

But it would be hard to be disappointed when you get to be one of the first folks to see this new black hair up close.
